What is a scenario-based retrospective?

A scenario-based retrospective turns your agile ceremony into an immersive experience. Instead of a simple column board, each step becomes a story chapter: the interface evolves with a themed background, customized columns and narrative instructions.

The result? A more engaged team, more honest feedback and active participation from everyone. Scenarios create a playful framework that takes the drama out of negative feedback and encourages creativity.

Why choose fun retrospectives?

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a classic and a scenario-based retrospective?
A classic retrospective uses a simple format with fixed columns (e.g. Keep/Drop/Start). A scenario-based retrospective adds a narrative dimension: each step is a story chapter with an immersive visual universe, themed instructions and a unique atmosphere. The background, columns and instructions change with each chapter.
Are themed retrospectives suitable for all teams?
Yes! They work just as well with beginner teams as with experienced ones. Beginner teams appreciate the narrative guidance, while experienced teams rediscover the joy of participating through the variety of formats.
How long does a scenario-based retrospective last?
The duration is the same as a classic retrospective: 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on team size and sprint duration. The scenario structures the time without extending it.
Can I create my own themes?
We regularly add new themes to the library. If you have a scenario idea, contact us!
Do participants need to create an account to join?
No, participants don't need an account. The facilitator simply shares a link and each team member joins the session in one click. This works the same for scenario-based and classic retrospectives.
How do I choose the right theme for my team?
Each theme has a detailed description with its chapters and columns. Choose based on the desired vibe: a theme like Dragon Ball brings energy, while a calmer theme encourages introspection. The key is to vary formats from sprint to sprint.
Do scenario-based retrospectives produce the same results as classic retros?
Yes, and often better results. The playful framework frees up expression and encourages more honest feedback. The steps remain the same (collect, vote, actions), but increased engagement produces more relevant actions and better follow-through.
